We are residents & friends of Hobart’s sunny Eastern Shore and surrounds, interested in or actively practicing permaculture in our gardens and beyond. Our Facebook group currently has a reciprocal arrangement with Southern Support School to use their garden classroom on a semi regular basis in exchange for time helping with maintenance in their impressive gardens.

For those new to the concept of permaculture, Good Life Permaculture highlight these two great nutshell definitions from its co-founders:

  • “Permaculture is a sustainable design system stressing the harmonious interrelationship of humans, plants, animals and the Earth. The core of permaculture is design and the working relationships and connections between all things”
    (Bill Mollison) or
  • David Holmgren once said, permaculture is common sense, which isn’t common anymore.

More resources to start digging deeper can be found here:

Our Facebook (FB) group is a tool to help members build on face-to-face community connections. We use it to flag, discuss and plan events like permaculture and garden visits, seed and surplus food swaps, skill shares, as well as local info about useful contacts, courses and resources etc.

Mailing list

As FB makes it very easy to miss posts, be sure to check out the group’s events tab for what’s coming up. And we also have a mailing list for non-Facebookers which is a handy monthly update on what’s happened, what’s coming up and the most useful links shared.

To be added to the mailing list, just direct message your email address or send a request to Katie: [email protected]

Your comments, suggestions, skills or assistance are most welcome to help support and build the group, so don’t hold back 🙂 Either post directly to the page or message admin (currently Katie, Alexis and Kym).

Facebook posting

  • financial members of Permaculture Tasmania are welcome to post information about workshops and courses
  • free event advertising is also welcome.
